Our first abandoned camping trip. I'm feeling a bit lamo. We had a lovely borrowed cosy tent.
We were having a wonderful time at Wilsons Promontory.
Toes in the sand.
Sun shining.
Hiking, exploring, chatting, riding bikes, smelling the flowers. Really getting into the swing of it. We arrived Saturday, it was now Wednesday, we weren't planning on leaving until the weekend.
Then came the forecast, from a fellow campers lap top, the advantages/disadvantages of technology. We would just have gone on happily as if nothing was afoot in days gone by.
We were nervous at the description of gale force winds, storms and rain, followed by hail. We couldn't really decide, we were having such a nice time and were not in decision making mode. Then the storm flies came, those little termites on wings that fall down your cleavage and in your tea. If you don't trust the weather man, these guys make you edgy. We went and asked the ranger if any cabins were available, nope all booked out. As the clouds came in we finally made our decision. Let's go - 3 days of bad weather ahead, what are we waiting for.
We packed in a frenzy, the radar showed we had an hour before we were about to get seriously dumped on. Great friends helped us bundle all our bits and get us moving just in the nick of time.
Now we're home, warm and dry by the fire, and I can't help but think we maybe missed out on something good. Something character building. The storms did come, we drove in rain the whole way home. We had over 60mm of rain at home, planes were cancelled, there was a lot of lightning. I think we made the right decision. I was just having far too good a time and not ready to come home.
Goodbye Wilsons Prom, hope to see you next year.
Stay tuned, I have more holiday photos to bore you with.
(physics) Of a ferromagnetic material; a material that becomes essentially non magnetic when an external magnetic field is removed, a material with a low magnetic coercivity. (compare hard) (Yes the magnetism of the prom was weakening)
(of a person) Physically or emotionally weak. (Soooo weak)
