Sticky Date Cookies recipe from mum

Gather ingredients while little one gets bored, double if you are a sweet tooth family of five like us, or else they will go too quickly.

1tbspn water
3/4 cup chopped dates
150 gm butter
2 tbls golden syrup
1/2 tsp bicarbonate soda
1 1/4 cups plain flour
1 1/4 cups traditional rolled oats
2/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar

 Chop dates
 Taste dates

 Measure water and golden syrup
add to pot with butter and dates, bring to simmer
add bicarb and watch the froth and bubble
add oats, sugar and flour once mixture is cooled
 taste for quality
 Roll into 1tbspn balls

Place on tray lined with baking paper, 5 cm apart. Flatten to 1 cm thickness with fork.  Bake 18-20 mins at 160 C until golden. Cool on tray for 5 mins, then cool on rack.

Ready just in time for hungry tummies returning home from school.

A bit like an Anzac Biscuit, only moister, with dates.
Thanks mum, delicious and very kid friendly recipe.

  3. I love it that your daughter was the cook and I was looking for something to add to the biscuit rep·er·toire of 1 ( only anzac biscuits ever cooked around here!)
Cheers, will let you know how I go.

In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.

And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbour:
"Winter is dead.”
