Bug Gangster

Today the best laid plans were swept aside as a villainous bug waltzed into our house and held my kids under its surrender. They were left limp, hot, headachey, snotty, wheezy, with sore tummies, bodies and throats, at times delirious, and utterly exhausted.  The poor middle Bowerbird had nightmares so terrible he couldn't shake them on waking, confusing reality with his awful dreams. He was actually asking for medicine and a trip to the Doctors. The little Bowerbird seemed to have escaped its wrath until she wouldn't eat her dinner and then rapidly produced a fever, and tears, then fell asleep on the rug, only to wake with more tears. I hate giving medicine to 3 year olds! Traumatic for everyone. None were interested in the rhubarb and apple crumble I had made for desert, a true test of wellness.

Amazingly there was a happy few hours whilst the sick ones slept and the little Bowerbird (who was still well at this stage) and I made dried apples and crumble. We even faced the blistering cold weather to gather rhubarb and spy on emerging mushrooms.

I suspect we are not over the worst, those fevers raged all day today. I have all the medicines out anticipating a wakeful night. My son gets awful asthma with viruses like these. Oh please let me stay fit, those poor little ones need a well mummy.

Hoping for a better day tomorrow.

In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.

“She turned to the sunlight
And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbour:
"Winter is dead.”
