Four

A much anticipated birthday finally arrives.
There is banana cake and surprises, just as requested.

Suddenly she is big enough to start kindergarten. Big enough to have her own lunch box packed in her own backpack. A day just as anxiously awaited as her birthday, a day to be celebrated.

Flowers and swirls, her first kindergarten painting, filled with the bright exuberance that the little Bowerbird throws at life.

Happy Birthday my little fledgling, delighted to see your joy in all that is new in your world.

  1. Happy belated birthday, youngest Bowerbird! Your tea party looks wonderful, especially those star shaped fairy breads. :)

  2. How grown up she looks with her bag, ready to face that "other world". A little sad, but also exciting.

In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.
Margaret Atwood

“She turned to the sunlight
And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbour:
"Winter is dead.”
