Sand - playing along with The Playlist

Our littlest loves sand. She's just seen this photo and said "I want to do that again, again".  Leaving the beach can result in tantrums.

Sand glorious sand. In your toes, your hair, your sleeping bag, your shoes and your pockets.  Sand to draw with, to make castles, and sculptures, sand to hide things in....

This is our sandpit.  We got a quote to fill it a while ago, and it was going to cost $100 - oh - maybe not this week.  Or any week in the near future.  It's amazing the fun you can have with just a skerrick of old dirty sand.

The little Bowerbird is "washing" dolly with sand here. She's not really an outside toy but little bowerbird was so absorbed in play I decided not to make a point of it. What are toys for, if not to have fun with?

She's very clean now.

No sandpit is going to compare to this gigantic playground, a shame the closest beach is an hour away.

For more good times with sand check out 1000 Homes of Happiness and her Sunday Playlist. A new theme to encourage outdoor play with kids will be revealed each week.

And, for more play ideas check out

Don't forget to enter my giveaway, especially if you like birds.

  1. It's lovely to see little ones being creative and getting absorbed in their play. I love the feeling of sand between my toes I just don't like it in my bed later when I'm clean but sand seems to get everywhere doesn't it. I hope you had a good weekend. :)

  2. Gorgeous pics! Agree, the beach is by far the best sandpit ever. Gorgeous little dollie and creative little lady. Love how kiddies can make fun out of anything!

    Thanks for sharing xox

  3. Very cute...looks like your little one will find plenty to keep her occupied outdoors whether the sandpit is full or not :)

  4. Popping over from Kellie's Linky :)Love the photos. How cute is your girl and that little dolly she is bathing!!

  5. Gorgeous little bowerbird! I agree that you don't need a lot of sand. Each summer we buy a 10kg bad of sand from "the big green shed" and keep it in a tub. Many cups of sand tea to be served!

PS. Thank you so much for leaving the website reference for our sausage jellies! It helped we win a "discussion" with Mr J. I was saying that I thought they were some kind egg and Mr J thought they were jelly-fish. We will definitely take a magnifying glass with us us time.

  6. Mine is a sand lover too
Have you priced out the play sand in bags at your local hardware store?(Lowes, Home Depot)

  7. I think the beach is our favorite play space too! Beautiful pictures.

  8. My kids LOVE the beach! It makes me wish we lived closer to one =-) I am starting a Linky Party if you want to link up at

  9. We love the sand, too. This looks like a fun outing. Thanks for linking up.

In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.

And whispered to her neighbour:
